Sherry Vine took a few moments from her very busy schedule to chat with me about Hudson and her upcoming show at Poured Candle Bar, Potty Mouth – Thursday and Friday, July 14-15. Click here for details.
Trixie: Why do you love Hudson?
Sherry: Hudson is so cute and quaint. I love the shops, and that it’s a mix of gay and straight. I was here back in the 90s, Musty Chiffon invited me to perform at the Hudson River Theater. I did not come back until you [Trixie] invited me to perform at Helsinki for Pride around 2018-2019.
Trixie: When did you start performing?
Sherry: I started in LA in the early 90s, then moved to NYC. My first show was at the Duplex in Manhattan in 1992 with Candis Cayne (we are still friends). We were singing live. Throughout the 90s, I performed throughout New York with Joey Arias, Raven O and Jackie Beat at places such as Squeeze Box, Jackie 60s, the Pyramid, and Bar d’O.
Trixie: Any scandalous stories?
Sherry: So many crazy stories! Many with Joey Arias. Bianca del Rio and I just did a tour in Israel, and there are stories from there!
Trixie: What should we expect with this show?
Sherry: I have new parodies – with everything that’s going on in the world, for one hour, I want people to not think about anything and just laugh. More stupid stuff, ruining everyone’s favorite songs!
Trixie: My favorite song that you ruined is “Hallelujah”. Tell me about how that came about.
Sherry: I did one verse as part of a medley, and it went over very well. I thought that four minutes was too long. Now, it’s one of the most popular! I have a lot of glamour outfits and jewelry. I figured, if I’m going to be singing about poop and penis, I might as well look glamorous! My 85-year-old mother came to the show, and said, ‘well, that’s just the character Sherry talking’. Yeah, the character that’s a whore.
