Five! Six! Seven! Eight!
For me, summer in Columbia County does not begin until I see a show at the Mac-Haydn Theatre. It is ALWAYS a good time – they never disappoint!
The 2022 season starts with “A Chorus Line”, which was one of the first Broadway shows I saw back in the early ’80s. At the time, “A Chorus Line” had risqué monologue, and a gay character! (Clutch my pearls!)
After over forty years, you would think that “A Chorus Line” is dated.
But, it’s still funny, “To commit suicide in Buffalo is redundant.”
It’s still a little risqué, “TITS! When am I getting tits!?!”
It’s still poignant. When listening to the actor Anthony Velez’s (interviewed above) monologue, about his parents’ reaction to seeing him in drag for the first time, you feel the lump in your throat, and get a little “verklempt”.
The dancing is incredible, but, what is “A Chorus Line” really about? A group of entertainers who put down their facades, the photo headshots, and talk about their lives, allowing themselves to be open and vulnerable.
That is when you connect with the characters of “A Chorus Line”. The same emotions are still relevant today.
Speaking of connecting – there are NEW COMFORTABLE SEATS in the Mac-Haydn Theatre! So, your butts will feel that comfortable connection too, and be equally happy!
