Flaunting Homosexuals in Egremont, MA

Posted on Fri,Jan 10, 2025Sat,Jan 25, 2025 by Trixie Starr

Anita Bryant is dead! Long live the queens!

“Well, at least it’s a fruit pie.” – Anita Bryant, 1977
Bryant waged her anti-gay crusade in the 1970s.

Anita Bryant is dead. Ding. Dong.

“If you don’t FLAUNT it, then who’s going to know you’re homosexual or not? They wanted to flaunt it and not lose their jobs.”
– Anita Bryant

There’s a maxim to nightlife. If you want a good party, you have to go to the fringes – the fringes of society.

The establishment is never fun. The establishment is normal, bland, beige, de rigueur. If you want excitement, you have to take a chance. You have to walk on the wild side. You have to go to Egremont.

Like Stefan from Saturday Night Live, I’m here to tell you, once again, that the hottest new club for our area is not even in the state of New York! It’s Hy’s Fried in Massachusetts.

Set in a fried chicken, biscuits, and roasted brussel sprouts renovated 1960s diner, Hy’s Fried is THE hottest new dance club.

There’s barely enough room in the dirt parking lot. Don’t drive into the ditch! Also, do not to hit a deer on your way in or out. A good time comes with a certain amount of danger and peril.

Yes, the DJ, Mike SUPA-VISOR, is also the town supervisor for Hillsdale (do you know of a DJ that doesn’t have another job?) Not only can he can twirl up a crowd on the dance floor, but he can write a state grant for the town’s sewer system!

DJ SUPA-VISOR

SUPA-VISOR sits in the DJ booth, and like a cauldron, stirs the ingredients for a fabulous evening. The ingredients must be added in a specific order to be effective. He does not add Madonna at the start. No, he builds up to Madonna! He starts with Gloria Gaynor, Diana Ross, Donna Summer, and maybe a dance remix of Ain’t No Mountain High Enough. He throws in a little early Madonna, maybe Borderline, as a tease. He keeps mixing and stirring, and builds up to a disco crescendo, so that by the time you hear Cher’s Believe, gay boys are not just dancing, but are jumping up and down, releasing the stored energy of generations of gaydom.

The word is out. HY TEA Fried is not only gay boys, it’s a mix of people – young and old – straight and gay – Democrats and Republicans – you never know who you are going to see! There were at least a half dozen locally-elected or appointed officials there that night. That should be a tip-off that it’s a good time!

Like any good party, you never know if there’s going to be another. Sometimes, you just have to be in the moment, and when it’s over, it’s gone. A good dance party is random and precarious, like life itself.

Fortunately, as I was typing this post, I received the next invite.

Flaunt it – and take that, Anita Bryant!
