Daniel “Dan” Mahar, a native of Claverack and graduate of Taconic Hills High School, took an unconventional path after earning his Philosophy degree from Pace University. Faced with three career options—teach, practice law, or pursue stand-up comedy—Dan chose the stage. He spent a decade performing in New York City clubs, touring the country, and mastering self-promotion, even “barking” on the streets to draw in crowds.
In 2017, Dan transitioned to real estate, joining Coldwell Banker Advisor Realty in 2019 in Hudson. There, he was mentored by the late Paul DeCrosta and current Principal Broker Jason Walch (2024 Columbia-Greene Board of Realtors President.) “Paul taught me patience and empathy, while Jason’s industry expertise, commitment to clients, and dedication to his agents make him someone I strive to emulate as a Broker. ” Dan reflects.
This year, Dan launched Mahar Real Estate, LLC, a company built on innovative marketing, digital transformation, and transparency. “Real estate is evolving, it’s changing, and we’re committed to being ahead of the curve, offering more for our clients than ever before,” says Dan. Mahar Real Estate is a full-service company dedicated to making the buying and selling process seamless. “For sellers, we handle coordinating everything from staging to pre-sale inspections, ensuring your home is market ready. Dan’s creative ‘Mahar Marketing Method’ strategies, honed during his comedy days, set him apart. A recent example is his first listing with Mahar Real Estate on Prospect Street in Hudson. “We had a goal and target in mind,” Dan stated, “by coordinating the events of the pre-listing prep work, professional photos, uploading the listing, the promotion, pricing and a specifically timed one-hour open house event led to multiple offers and are headed towards settlement. Things have to happen in a certain order in a timely fashion for it to work.”
Joining Dan at Mahar Real Estate is Erin Shepherd, a top agent with over $10 million in sales across Rensselaer, Columbia, Greene, and Albany counties. “I’m incredibly grateful Erin took a leap of faith with me. She’s a rockstar with very tech forward thinking ideas,” Dan shares, “I feel like I’m on dialup internet sometimes and she’s in fiberoptic hyperspace. We pair well and have a long future ahead.”
