Friends of Hudson Youth proudly announces the 5th Annual Oakdale Plunge on Saturday March 5th, 2022 !!
The Oakdale Plunge makes a vital contribution to the safety and well-being of our community and generous support from local businesses ensures our success! The 2021 event raised over $35,000 to support two fundamental Hudson organizations, the Hudson Youth Department Waterfront Program and the Hudson Fire Department Water Rescue and Dive Team.
The Dive Team will continue to use its share of the proceeds to expand, upgrade and maintain their aging inventory of safety gear to keep team members and our community safe. The Youth Department’s share will go towards their newly expanded Waterfront Program. For the first time in 2020 the Department had a dedicated on-site training program and was able to increase the number of lifeguards and expand the hours of summer beach operation. Plunge donations will keep this important program going!
This event enjoys immense popularity and is a great source of civic engagement and good will. In 2021, 10 teams jumped into the freezing cold lake, including Metzwood Insurance, Columbia Memorial Hospital, our local Library, Friends of Oakdale Lake, elected officials, diverse community groups, and colorfully costumed local individuals. In all, 75 plungers braved Oakdale’s frigid waters and thrilled a record number of supporters with their bravery, attracting over 400 individual donors.
Local business sponsors enthusiastically support the Oakdale Plunge, and these contributions underwrite the event and guarantee its success. Many sponsoring organizations also contribute by fielding teams of plungers for the event.
Citizens participate in the Oakdale Plunge in either of two ways. They can make a splash, as an individual or with a team, and engage in peer-to-peer fundraising with co-workers, family and friends. Or make a donation in support of braver plungers while staying warm and dry.
