Winds of Change – a concert from Jazz and Classics for Change

A beautiful ensemble of wind instruments and piano will be the focus of an upcoming concert at an outdoor venue in Germantown on June 8th. Presented by Jazz and Classics for Change, the group was assembled by the Co-founder and Artistic Director, Gili Melamed-Lev.  Musicians include Eli Eban – clarinet, Gili Sharett – bassoon, Roni Gal-Ed – oboe, Liri Ronen – French horn and Gili Melamed-Lev – piano.

In addition to the musicians, the event will feature interspersed poetry read by actor John McManus. “We know music can transport people emotionally,” said Melamed-Lev. “By adding John’s vocal element, we want to create experiences that celebrate the human spirit. Once you bring together different artists using different mediums, it makes the experience even richer.”

The program includes a solo for French horn, Mozart and Beethoven Wind Quintets and a composition by Hudson Valley resident and 2013 Guggenheim Fellow Sheila Silver entitled Subway Sunset. The contemporary piece will be a clarinet and piano duet.

“Both the Mozart and Beethoven wind quintets are among the most celebrated masterpieces in the chamber music repertoire,” Melamed-Lev adds. “They are phenomenal pieces of great beauty, joy, drama and gorgeous moments that takes your breath away.” High praise.

Jazz and Classics for Change was established in 2019 with the mission “to connect and heal through music in our changing world.” In addition to presenting world class musicians, the organization provides programming for people from all walks of life. This includes outreach programs for young adults, adults with special abilities, residents of assisted-living facilities and children of incarcerated parents.
