Trash Talk

HUDSON, NY – Friendly City Creative Club, along with ToolShed, The Hudson Wail, and Cat Tyc, are excited to present Trash Talk, an exhibition inspired by the city of Hudson’s iconic blue trash bags.

There are two notable vending machine locations in Hudson, New York. One, inside the DMV, dispenses a traditional variety of sugary drinks and salty snacks. The other, located outside City Hall, dispenses nothing but bright blue trash bags. They don’t taste very good.

So why are they there? When we fill them with trash, who takes them away? Where does it go? Usually, our relationship to trash is not unlike the trash itself – out of sight and out of mind. But here, nestled amongst stores selling high art and vintage antiques, our trash bags are on full display, to observe, ponder, and purchase.

Artists were invited to create pieces that examine our consumptive habits by using the blue trash bag or discarded waste as materials. The show will be accompanied by a printed zine and limited ed
