Hudson Hall reopens its galleries with the first retrospective survey of work by beloved children’s book author and illustrator, Hudson Talbott. Hudson has written and illustrated over 27 books for young readers in an illustrious career that spans 30 years. Over the course of his career, he has worked with Steven Spielberg on an animated film adaptation, and with Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine on the book version of their hit musical Into the Woods. In 2009 his book River of Dreams: The Story of the Hudson River was named New York State’s Children’s Book of the Year and was later adapted into a children’s musical.

Among Hudson’s many clients and patrons are The Metropolitan Museum, Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Opera Guild, and the New-York Historical Society. His Statue of Liberty illustrations for Bloomingdale’s became iconic during the Statue’s Centennial celebration and featured in an exhibition at the NY Public Library and the Louvre Museum in Paris.

Hudson lives in New York’s Hudson Valley and has served on the Board of Trustees of the Thomas Cole National Historic Site since 2005. In homage to the region’s tradition of artistic inspiration he created Picturing America: Thomas Cole and The Birth of American Art. His forthcoming book, A Walk in the Words is due out this fall.
