DBL FTR: The Defiant Ones & Black Mama White Mama Screening
BLACK THEN: AGAIN! is a month-long celebration of Blaxploitation films of the 70s and beyond, curated by Josiah Howard, who literally wrote the book on the film genre!
The Defiant Ones – 4:00 PM: Two of the convicts, John Joker Jackson (Tony Curtis) and Noah Cullen (Sidney Poitier), who are chained together, find an opportunity to escape. Jackson is white, Cullen is black and, at first, the men appear to be opposites in every way.
Black Mama White Mama – 7:00 PM:
Two women meet in jail and are chained together for transport to a maximum security prison. Their bus is ambushed en route, however, and the pair manages to escape together. Chased by bounty hunters, crooked police and revolutionaries, they struggle to get along and get away.
