The Project presents an intimate selection of 2024-25, works by Dave Ortiz (1970). Ortiz is a NY born Nuyorican artist who lives and works in Delhi, NY, and NYC
This intimate selection features painted found objects, a series of square paintings, and a large painting from the “JÍbaro” series. The centerpiece delves deeper into the landscapes and rhythms of rural upstate New York.
The “My Jíbaro Experience” series is drawn from a term rooted in Puerto Rican culture. Jíbaro embodies the resilient spirit of the island’s mountain farmers. For the artist, it’s a bridge between his heritage and his present life, honoring the land, labor, and legacies through vibrant abstractions.
Alongside the paintings are hand painted objects re-mastered in the tradition of “objet trouvé.” These are foundational to his practice, and merge geometric precision with graffiti inspired energy. The bold palette declares that the Jíbaro world belongs to everyone beneath the rainbow.
