Commissioned by Hudson Hall, Hudson Terminus is a new interdisciplinary work by choreographer, visual artist, and recent Foundation for Contemporary Arts awardee, Jon Kinzel. Tailored to Hudson Hall’s first floor galleries and second floor performance hall, the project continues Kinzel’s Terminus series—begun in 2016—which explores graphic mark-making, relationships between composition and improvisation, and the effects of technology on embodiment and perception. Merging set and sound design, sculpture, and choreography, Hudson Terminus reflects on the transitional nature of the aging body as a site of refuge and an instrument in flux.
Structured in two parts, the exhibition first presents an immersive first floor installation that audiences are invited to walk through, encountering artworks informed by Kinzel’s dual practices. Upstairs in the performance hall, a substantive yet somewhat short trio (approx. 25 minutes) will feature isolated and momentum-based movement forms shaped in part by nuance, exaggeration, partnering, and a sense of un-resolved-ness.
